The largest flying boats ever to enter US military service. Seven built for the US Navy as long-range transports. After naval service, four were converted into aerial water bombers for Canadian forest firefighting. Two survived into the 21st century, capable of scooping 27,000 litres of water in 40 seconds. The last operational examples were the largest flying boats in the world.
