CASIC · Direct-Ascent Anti-Satellite Missile / LEO Satellite Destruction · China · Modern (1992–2009)

Open in interactive gallery →

China's primary anti-satellite weapon. Its January 2007 destruction of the FY-1C weather satellite at 865 km altitude created the worst debris event in space history — over 3,500 trackable fragments that will remain hazardous for decades. The test demonstrated China's ASAT capability and triggered a global reassessment of space security. Higher-altitude variants targeting GPS and GEO assets are in development.
