On 19 October 1901 Alberto Santos-Dumont flew from Saint-Cloud, around the Eiffel Tower and back in under 30 minutes, winning the 100,000-franc Deutsch Prize and becoming an international celebrity overnight. The first airship to demonstrate precise urban navigation. He donated the prize money to the poor of Paris. Still celebrated in Brazil as the father of aviation.
